Lock-in Thermography Image Procesing

چکیده

Composite materials have appropriate thermal properties for detection flaws by means of non-destructive infrared thermography methods. Infrared thermography methods are based on tracking heat flow that has been induced by flood lamps. Lock-in thermography, as one of infrared thermography methods, is used in detection of flaws. Surface of specimen is periodically heated by heat flow in form of sinusoid. Presented method enables reconstruction of sinusoid wave after reflection from defect boundaries. Parameters of reconstructed heat wave differ for waves reflected from non-damaged and damaged material. The period of excitation is varied. In the presented article a basic theory of lock-in thermography and signal processing is given. The lock-in method is applied on samples made of carbon fibers reinforced plastic in order to show possibilities of

Quantitative Evaluation of Pulsed Thermography, Lock-in Thermography and Vibrothermography on Foreign Object Defect (FOD) in CFRP

In this article, optical excitation thermographic techniques, including pulsed thermography and lock-in thermography, were used to detect foreign object defect (FOD) and delamination in CFRP. Then, vibrothermography as an ultrasonic excitation technique was used to detect these defects for the comparative purposes. Different image processing methods, including cold image subtraction (CIS), prin...

Inversion of microscopic lock-in thermograms in the presence of emissivity contrast

None of the conventionally displayed images of lock-in thermography (in-phase or 0° image, out of phase or -90° image, amplitude image, phase image) is able to become inverted in the presence of emissivity contrast. The phase signal is inherently emissivity-corrected, but here contributions of different heat sources superimpose very nonlinearly, which prevents any meaningful deconvolution. It i...

An IR Lock-in Thermography Nondestructive Test System Based on the Image Sequence Processing

Optically stimulated Lock-in thermography (OLT) which is an active thermography technique for NDT is based on propagation and reflection of thermal waves which are launched from the surface into the inspected component by absorption of modulated radiation. Phase angle images obtained by superposition of the initial thermal wave and its internal reflection display hidden thermal structures down ...

Quantitative Analysis of the Influence of Shunts in Solar Cells by Means of Lock-in Thermography

Infrared lock-in thermography not only allows to image local heat sources like shunts in electronic devices like solar cells, but it also can measure currents flowing in certain regions of the device quantitatively in a non-destructive way. After dealing with the physical basics of quantitative lock-in thermography, two types of measurements are described: 1. The quantitative measurement of the...

Application of Lock-in Thermography to Failure Analysis in Integrated Circuits

Lock-in thermography (LT), which is an established technique in non-destructive evaluation, can also be used for failure analysis (FA) in integrated circuits (ICs). In comparison to earlier thermal FA techniques, like liquid crystal imaging or fluorescent microthermal analysis, LT is easier to apply since it does not need a foreign layer at the IC surface, and the sensitivity limit is improved ...
